Look Back: Reporting in Syria

Hell on Earth: The Fall of Syria and the Rise of ISIS - Nat. Geo. Documentary Films and Junger Quested Films

After over 50 years, the Assad regime in Syria fell on Sunday, December 8. Bashar al-Assad, president for the last two decades after the death of his father Hafez al-Assad, fled Damascus. The rebel militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) launched an offensive against the ruling family on November 27, swiftly taking control of the cities Aleppo, Hama, and Homs before arriving in Damascus. Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed al-Jalali remained in Syria and announced via video that he was prepared to cooperate with new leadership “chosen by the Syrian people” in the transition of power.
